AYLESBURY, UK – USA Women’s National Team Coach Kathy Flores announced today the starting lineup set to play England A on Wednesday, December 12. The match, to be played at London Irish Amateur RFC, Sunbury, at 7 p.m. (GMT), is the second of three games on the Women’s National Team’s 2007 First Sports International England Tour.

“Most of the squad has little international experience, but with the help of a few veterans in key positions, we look forward to seeing some very good things from our roster changes,” Coach Flores said.

England A new head coach Mike Barnett said: “This squad is a real mix of youth and experience. There are a lot of caps between a small handful of players, but we also have some very exciting fresh new talent here who will have their first chance to show what they can do in an international encounter. This is certainly an important fixture for us as it will give us a real insight as to where we are before the New Year and ahead of a busy fixture list.

“We are all looking forward to the US match which I am sure will be a challenging fixture. We don’t know a lot about them as they have had a high turn-around of players since the Rugby World Cup but we do know they are here to be taken seriously. They will also be very physical and aggressive in defence.”

Experienced England and Richmond player Karen Jones, will captain the side. Jones returns to international rugby after a year’s sabbatical, has 11 caps for England after making her debut against Canada in 2004. The 29-year-old will lead a side brimming with experience and youth. Between Jones, Claire Purdy, Shelley Rae, Michaela Staniford, Katherine Merchant and Vicky Massarella they share 93 caps.

Claire Purdy (Wasps)
Sam Dale (Worcester)
