Rugby Bites & Bites … Back to the Grind

• The Under-23 Eagles wrapped up their New Zealand Tour with a 22-12 loss to Manuwera senior women’s club team. Center Kelly Griffin and flanker Shaina Turley scored the Eagle’s two tries, respectively. Turley, aka Turls, is blogging her experience here at Adventures in Rugby. Hopefully, she’ll wrap up her journey to New Zealand for us and keep her blog going for other adventures.

Do most territories have open tryouts for their 7s squads? There are no longer tryouts for the (women’s) Northeast 7s team, which seems unfair to players hoping to work their way onto the squad and certainly not the best way to build and strengthen a program. If anyone has info on the tryout process in other territories, please share.

At west, we had an open call/email for the tryout camps and to cape fear. Everyone was pretty well aprised along the way as to what needed to be done individually to get them on the team. However the Pac Coast operations were not so open and inviting (note the Berkeley +2 list). I have really enjoyed playing for the west! Come out here if the NE is giving you the run around 🙂 -Heidi Whitman
