Ashley English Named Athlete of the Year

USA Rugby has named Ashley English as the Athlete of the Year …

6-3-2006 – English Named Athlete of the Year
USA Rugby Women’s National Team player Ashley English received the Athlete of the Year Award during halftime festivities at Saturday’s Barclays Churchill Cup game.

The award recognizes athletic excellence on the pitch in international competition, as well as personal excellence off the field of play. The award highlights integrity, leadership and sportsmanship, combined with outstanding play on the international scene.

In just over a year, English represented all three levels of USA Rugby play.

She closed out 2004 as an instrumental member of a national team that blanked Scotland A 72-0, opened 2005 with a 22-0 win over the NRU, successfully captained and defended a women’s club championship title with the Berkeley All Blues and closed the year as a member of a Pacific All-Star 15s team that played to a runner-up finish at the USA Rugby Women’s All-Star 15s Championships. A month later the Women Eagles dominated their Ireland and UK Tour going 3-0 with wins over Scotland, Ireland and England A.

The third recipient of the award, it was presented to Keenya Warner in 2003 and Jen Crouse in 2004.

I found the pic of Ashley via WomenEagles and here is her bio page from the Eagle roster.

And according to, the men will name their Athlete of the Year during Wednesday night’s USA vs. New Zealand match.

any idea of the results of the Girls Youth Rugby this weekend in Portland Maine (national championships)? Having hard time finding on the web how the various high school / club teams did//

Can you email me with a link of the results? Or share anything you know. In particular, I am looking for a score(s) for the Fort Collins girls youth team (high school age). Thanks,
