Rugby Bits and Bites

• Australia has cut its women’s national player pool from 111 to 56 in preparation for the World Cup later this year. See the 56-woman roster here.

• American Rugby News redeemed itself a bit (from posting that stupid Dancing Girls story (which is still up!)) with a profile of UC-San Diego’s scrumhalf Alexis Volen. Added: It seems that ARN took down the headline for the Dancing Girls story and it’s no longer posted under Women’s Rugby. It’s about time.

• Just a shoutout to the two Wisconsin kids – one traveling and one reserve – who made the Boys U-19 World Championship Squad. Tom Katzfey, Waukesha, Wis. (Krusaders) and John Chisholm, Madison, Wis. (Madison West H.S. RFC).

• Kurt Oeler’s reporting a “derisive e-mail” has made its rounds with the USA Rugby board and may have “exposed factious divisions”. Makes you wonder if this is more of an ongoing pissing match or true concern over real issues.

• And just for the record, I got up 15 minutes earlier this morning, didn’t hit my snooze button my usual 9 times and will be at work 40 minutes earlier than usual. Boo-yah!
